What are they?
The flap closing machines (or flap-closing machines) are devices used to close the top and bottom ends of cardboard boxes, sealing them to ensure safety during transport and storage. These machines are an integral part of industrial packaging lines and are used to close boxes once the products have been inserted inside, so they can be easily handled, moved, and distributed.
The operation of a flap closing machine is simple but very useful for speeding up the packaging process. Usually, the process involves the following stages:
Box feeding: Empty boxes are fed into the flap closing machine by a conveyor system. These boxes may have already been filled with products through other machines (such as cartoning machines).
Folding the top flaps: Once the box is positioned in the machine, the top flaps (the top parts of the box sides) are folded towards the center.
Closing the flaps: The folded flaps are then sealed. This can be done in various ways:
Gluing: The flaps are sealed using glue (hot glue or cold glue) to ensure a strong closure.
Taping: The flaps are closed using adhesive tape (usually a strip of adhesive tape is applied on the top of the box to keep it closed).
Interlocking or folding: In some cases, the flaps can simply be folded and interlocked without the use of adhesives or tapes.
Exit of the closed box: Once the flaps have been closed and sealed, the box is moved out of the machine and prepared to be sent to the next phase of the production line (such as palletizing or shipping).
What do we offer?
In these machines, the operator must manually load the boxes into the machine, but the machine handles the flap closing through the application of adhesive tape or glue. They are suitable for small to medium-sized production environments where speed is not a critical factor.
Automatic machines, on the other hand, close the boxes completely autonomously. These machines are faster and suitable for high-capacity production lines, where a large number of boxes need to be sealed quickly. They can be equipped with automatic box feeding systems and automatic applicators for adhesive tape or glue.
These machines use adhesive tape to seal the boxes. They can be designed to apply one or more strips of tape on the top flaps of the box, ensuring that the box is securely sealed. Adhesive tape machines are the most common due to their speed and ease of use.
In some industrial applications, flap closing machines use glue (hot or cold) to seal the boxes. These machines are often used in sectors that require particularly strong or secure closure, such as the packaging of food, pharmaceutical, or electronic products.
